About Dr. Ali


Yasmine S. Ali, MD, MSCI, FACC, FACP is a cardiologist and award-winning physician writer who has published across multiple genres and formats, including medical writing, blogging, prescriptive nonfiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry. Dr. Ali has been a medical writer for nearly 25 years.

She is currently President of LastSky Writing, LLC, a full-spectrum freelance writing company. Her clients include global healthcare corporations, medical device companies, medical communications agencies, consumer health publications, and more.

Dr. Ali is Chief Editor of the Atherosclerosis section and the Congenital Heart Disease section of Medscape Reference Drugs and Diseases (from WebMD), a role she has held for over 12 years.

Dr. Ali also served as Physician Editor for MCG Health, LLC, for nearly 10 years, aiding in the creation and revision of evidence-based clinical care guidelines. She has also been a medical editor, writer, and CME speaker for MedStudy, specializing in the creation and revision of board review materials in the fields of internal medicine and pediatrics.

In the area of health blogging, Dr. Ali served as Obesity Expert for Verywell Health for three years, creating the Obesity site from scratch, writing and updating hundreds of pieces of evergreen article content as well as late-breaking health news, and maintaining a weekly e-newsletter. She continues to be a medical reviewer and advisor for Verywell Health, as well as for HealthCentral and Rooted in Science.

Dr. Ali's current book-in-progress is Walk Through Fire: The Waverly Train Disaster of 1978, due to be released in February 2023 by Kensington Books. The book is a narrative history of one of the worst train explosions and hazardous materials disasters of the 20th century, which occurred in her own hometown.

Dr. Ali is a member of the Authors Guild and the American Medical Writers Association. She is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and of the American College of Physicians. She is also a member of the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association, the National Lipid Association, and the Tennessee Medical Association. She holds MD and MSCI (Master of Science in Clinical Investigation) degrees from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
